The Future
Water and Metallurgical Coke
As we seek to commercialise our technology we fully recognise that water is a vital resource in many areas that are abundant in low cost brown coal.
Accordingly, the ability to recover all of the high moisture content of the brown coal is a significant environmental and community positive.
In Victoria's Latrobe Valley over 65 million tonnes of brown coal are used each year for electricity generation. Over 40 million tonnes of water contained within this coal are emitted directly to atmosphere. More than 50 million additional tonnes of water are also used from the nearby rivers and dams for cooling purposes.
The additional benefits of having power stations using our technology and process, with little or no requirement to draw on water supplies in surrounding rivers and dams, is also a major positive.
The potential to develop additional export earnings, from the internationally competitive sales of produced metallurgical coke and activated carbon, is also a significant community employment benefit. The coke production is also at relatively low emission levels.
Steel Mill Waste Recovery
Our technology has also been applied at the Laboratory and Pilot Plant sites in the recovery of iron ore and other metallurgical applications.
We have successfully conducted trials on the use of our carbon product in the recovery of mill scale waste, and other steel mill applications.
These areas provide additional opportunity for the further development and enhancement of our underlying technology.
